Constructed ca. 1730. Originally owned by Captain Francis Baker, a local merchant who reputedly served as one of Charleston's earliest executioners. After Baker's death, his son eventually sold the house and after a series of owners, it was purchased in 1818 by Isaac Harby, a playwright, editor, and journalist. Under the ownership of the Richards family, the garden was developed by Loutrel Briggs.
