Receipt Book of Harriott Pinckney Horry, 1770Description
Harriott Pinckney Horry began her receipt book in 1770, two years after her marriage to Daniel Horry. The daughter of a prominent SC family and the wife of a Huguenot planter, Harriott maintained a notebook of recipes and household formulas built on a small collection given to her by her mother. This book provides a glimpse into daily life at Hampton plantation, containing 124 recipes for food and drink, and including information on such topics as caring for silk stockings, soap making, coping with insects, and managing a plantation.
