One of a set of six side chairs, Empire style, c.1815.
Side chair with faux wood and gilt painted finish. Straight turned front leg; splayed back leg. Double turned side stretchers; single turned back stretcher; single decoratively turned front stretcher (sketch in file).
Rolled front seat rail with central floral decoration flanked by wide vertical ribbing. Flag seat woven in four triangular segments. Rolled tablet back outlined with gilt band around perimeter ending in double Greek key on each side. Painted scroll and acantus leaf motif on back splat supported by horizontal backrail belowCollection

The painted finish is in poor repair, with cracking, flaking and chipping overall. There is a horizontal crack at the roll on the crest rail. The faux wood painted decoration has heavily deteriorated on the stretchers. There are gouges to the horizontal back rail.
