Constructed ca. 1883-86. S.J.L. Matthews, who lived at 3 Limehouse Street, built four speculative houses (151-159 Tradd Street) in the mid-1880s. Three of the four dwellings, including 155 Tradd Street, follow the style of the 2½ story wood Charleston single house, while 153 Tradd Street has had extensive modifications.
