WARREN.064.1Scope and Content
Constructed ca. 1816; rehabilitated 1980s. James Gabeau, a cooper and descendant of French Huguenot immigrants became one of the first lot purchasers in Radcliffeborough to build a substantial dwelling in the emerging suburb. A raised basement and brick piers support the main 2½ story wood, plantation style dwelling, which has a one-story front piazza approached by an original marble staircase with a wrought-iron railing. A pediment with a bull's-eye window projects from the gable roof, along with two pedimented dormers. Gabeau also acquired the lot known as 66 Warren Street, and his estate built a new 2½ story closed gable single house shortly before conveying the property. (Poston, Buildings of Charleston.)
