WATER.014.1Scope and Content
Constructed 1769. The placement of this single house on a corner lot has resulted in an address on Water Street. Thomas Young, the builder of 35 Church Street, constructed this house in 1769. The date was confirmed with the discovery of a small piece of mahogany in the framing inscribed "T. Young, 1769." Young's widow, then living at 47 Church Street conveyed the house to Thomas Keenan in 1800 with a covenant not to open windows on the north side. Located at the corner of Water Street and Church Street, this house is also known as 45 Church Street. (Poston, Buildings of Charleston.)
File contains FOHG house history (1967); house history from Information for Guides of Historic Charleston (1984); house history from Tour Guide Training Manual (2011); chain-of-title research notes; representation of 1888 Sanborn(?) map; Rosen and Associates (engineers) site inspection report (1989, Hurricane Hugo).Collection
