Scope and Content

Constructed ca. 1874-75. Jane MacIntosh built this simple 2-story Charleston single house with double-tiered piazzas right after purchasing this lot for $400 in 1874 from Sophia Frances Shepard Wilson, owner 57 Radcliffe Street. Several other single houses on this side of Warren Street follow this same sort of pattern with a mix of late-Greek Revival and Italianate styles. Another single woman, Miss Virginia Webb, built a similar house at 76 Warren Street in the late 1870s. Two files contain documentation of the covenant on the property; correspondence and other documentation related to the sale and management of the property; documentation related to HCF's purchase of the property; documentation related to HCF's rehabilitation of the property; annual inspection reports; requests for alterations; inspection photos; historical/chain-of-title research notes; copy of HCF easement information card (TMS number, year of construction, significant resident(s), deed research, deed restrictions, measurements, and tax information); data sheet for CharlestonWISE Impact Project (Sustainability Institute) that includes construction date, square footage, number of stories, building orientation, system materials/types, Sanborn Map research notes, and additions/alterations notes (Mariah Schwartz, 2011); photocopy of plat (1987) indicating approval of alterations. See Covenant/Easement Inspection Photo Files for inspection photography. Easement inspection photos only.
