Constructed ca. 1837. Three-story wood single house altered in the 19th century, notably with bowed front piazzas in the Eastlake style. Front door is decorated by a transom bar and side light. The property has undergone many changes in ownership, and include Oliver Pendleton, William Mears, John A.S. Ashe, Eliza Barnwell Livingstone, and others, including the vendue master, a public-market or auction official, lived next door at 8 Water Street.
File contains graduate student report (Jaime Destefano, 2006) on the history of the house and property, which includes historical and chain-of-title research, maps, photos, and other supporting documentation.
