Scope and Content

Historic Charleston Foundation's Energy Conservation Improvement Program was created to provide energy efficiency for 112 of Charleston's older homes of elderly and low-income residents. The Program was created in partnership with the City of Charleston's Office of Housing and Economic Development. Through a grant from the department, storm doors and windows, weather-stripping, infiltration barriers, and insulation for attics and floors were installed at no cost. The project monitor was M.E. Van Dyke. Documentation consists of an overview of the program; statistics for each house regarding weatherization costs and savings, and age of participants; and a description of each house's areas of improvement, estimated savings, and rebates. Descriptions are arranged by street address. Each file includes a B&W photograph of the house and many include the program application to the City of Charleston. The following is a list of the addresses of houses that participated in the program: 7 Aiken, 13 Aiken, 27 Allway, 49 America, 50 America, 52 America, 54 America, 66 America, 102 America, 108 America, 109 America, 110 America, 4 Amherst, 8 Amherst, 23 Amherst, 38 Amherst, 53 Amherst, 53 Amherst, 46 Ashe, 52 Ashe, 260 Ashley, 223 Ashley, 212 Ashley, 893 Ashley, 11 Bogard, 70 Bogard, 101 Bogard, 48 Carolina, 51 Carolina, 50 Chapel, 55 Chapel, 57 Columbus, 62 Columbus, 87 Columbus, 88 Columbus, 89 Columbus, 90½ Columbus [90 Columbus], 91 Columbus, 92 Columbus, 132 Cannon, 255 Coming, 30 Cooper, 43 Cooper, 44 Cooper, 45 Cooper, 2 Court, 7 Court, 13 Court, 35 Cypress, 61 Drake, 88 Drake, 667 East Bay, 669 East Bay, 1 East Hampstead, 3 East Hampstead, 11 Enston, 21 Hampden, 25 Hanover, 59 Hanover, 88 Hanover, 3 Humphry, 16 Line, 55 Maple, 1 Montagu, 6 Murphy, 27 Nassau, 33 Nassau, 77 Nassau, 92 Nassau, 98 Nassau, 110 Nassau, 13 Perry, 20 Percy, 4 Poplar, 17 Reid, 68 Reid, 31 Rose Lane, 242 Rutledge, 257 Rutledge, 553 Rutledge, 7 South Tracy, 29 San Souci, 17 Sheppard, 174 Smith, 176 Smith, 28 South, 40 South, 197 Spring, 233 St. Philip, 238 St. Philip, 292 Sumter, 298 Sumter, 299 Sumter, 336 Sumter, 338 Sumter, 386 Sumter, 390 Sumter, 49 Vanderhorst, 77 Vanderhorst, 7 Woolfe.
