The three-story brick building at 86 Wentworth Street was built in 1910 by the Trude Real Estate Company, a corporation of which the brothers james and Albert Sottile were the principal officers. Designed by Charleston architect Decimus C. Barbot, it was constructed as a combination office and apartment building. The building replaced a single house which had been the rectory of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church for approximately a century. apartment 86-B in the building was for many years the home of Donna Rosina Albergamo Sottile, widow of Salvatore de Giovanni Sottile and matriarch of the Sottile family of Charleston.
