WENTWORTH.087-9.1Scope and Content
Constructed ca. 1750-75. 87 Wentworth altered 19th and 20th centuries. These brick and bermuda stone tenements with massive central brick chimneys may be the oldest houses remaining on the former glebe lands. Although the eastern tenement was altered in the 19th century, 89 Wentworth Street retains its original jerkin-head roof and an early one-story piazza accessed through a rusticated, arched doorway from the street. The interior has some paneling and woodwork indicating construction from the third quarter of the 18th century. (Poston, Buildings of Charleston.)
