WENTWORTH.124.1Scope and Content
Constructed before 1812; altered circa 1845 and circa 1880
When the prosperous butcher John Burckmeyer died in 1812, he left this house and lot to his daughter, Elizabeth. She sold the property in 1845 to H. W. Muckenfuss, and it became a family residence for the rest of the century. William G. Muckenfuss, who lived here from 1876 onward, was an executive in the phosphate firm of Pelzer, Rodgers and Company. H. W. Muckenfuss probably made the first changes to the house, including the 1840s style parapeted gable and a later generation added the pedimented pressed window heads and made other alterations as well.
