166 Wentworth Street (Job Palmer House)Entry/Object ID
WENTWORTH.166.1Scope and Content
Constructed ca. 1809; restored 1960s. Job Palmer, a carpenter, probably built his own residence at 166 Wentworth Street in the early-19th century. This brick 3-story Charleston single house on a raised basement has a double-tiered piazza with an elegant door architrave and simple rectangular transom. The piazza entrance was found in the basement of the house during a 1960s restoration. A portion of the second tier of the piazza was enclosed in recent years to accommodate 20th century needs. (Poston, Buildings of Charleston.)
File contains house history from Information for Guides of Historic Charleston (1984); newspaper article (DYKYC, 1970); draft FOHG house history for 166½ Wentworth.Collection
