The fanlight epitomized the Georgian town house and flourished in the 18th century in London, Edinburgh, Dublin, Liverpool, Bristol and all the Georgian towns, and spread to North America, and "colonial" architecture in South Africa and Australia. Charlotte Halliday's elegant watercolors and drawings are supported by a social architectural history by Alexander Stuart Gray, and a technical section is contributed by John Sambrook, traditional fanlight maker.
