From donor: It's my grandfather's store at 462 King St. He started it in 1919 and this picture is from 1940. There is video footage from 1950 when my father, Jack Vane, re-opened it as Vane's United Phonograph company in 1950 after the original building burned. "Home movie" footage at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8bCf6mnOJI. Per Old Codgers Charleston Address Book: 1900, C.H. Stender/County Dispensary No. 9. 1910, vacant. 1920, Mrs. Edith Sullivan. 1920-1930, Julius Liberman / F.M. Faress. 1940, Fred Faress / Max Mridel. 1900-1950, Vane's United Phonograph Co. Founded by Daniel Vane and his brother Morris Vane in 1919. It was opened as the United Phonograph co. when Daniel Vane ran it. In 1946 he turned it over to his son Jack Vane. In 1949 the business became Vane's United Phonograph co. In 1954 they celebrated their 35th anniversary of being in business. Such appliances as gas kitchen ranges, television sets, refrigerators, and automatic washers had been added to the stock. 1960-1980, Consumer Acceptance & Loan Corp.
