Sometimes the gods of old photos just smile on me for no apparent reason. I was at a bar the other night to play in their trivia night. My normal friends couldn't make it, so I went over and asked to play with another team of regulars who are really nice. They were glad to have me.
Over at the bar, there was a drunk guy who was really getting loud. I told my new teammates about a recent instance where there had been a drunk patron at a lunch spot I was eating at. I just happened, for no particular reason, to say, "It used to be O'Malley's on upper King St. until a new restaurant went in."
One of the other team said he knew the place because his family had owned it once. Of course, that caused me to immediately start asking about old photos, and he said he had one he'd gladly share with me.
He just emailed it to me. This is one of the most perfectly frame, well-detailed, high-res photos of an old building I've ever come across. And it was so totally random how it happened!
This shot was taken c. 1910-1920 and show my now best bud's grandfather out front.
