Notebook containing information about 59 Church Street likely written and assembled by Juliette Staats and based on the extensive research of both she and her husband, Henry Phillip Staats. Notebook contains two photographs showing the house before and after the Whitman restoration; brief description of the Church Street Historic Foundation; document entitled "Data Concerning the House at 59 Church Street"; documents entitled "Record of the Ownership of the House at 59 Church Street" which summarize wills and deeds and includes "Notes on Thomas Savage; document entitled "Notes on the Thomas Rose House - August 1985" which provides a brief history of the house and its furnishings; document entitled "Furnishings of the Thomas Rose House, 59 Church Street," a room-by-room description of the furnishings; document entitled "Thomas Rose House: Notes on House and Garden," a history of the garden and description of its features; and house tour "script" used for Historic Charleston Foundation's Festival of Houses.
Also contains in the pocket of the notebook's inside cover: a letter from Stephen Whitman and document containing reminiscences of Thomas Whitman (owner of 59 Church, 1929-1942); a letter from David Shields [Citadel professor] (1989) about Thomas Rose letters he found in Belfast with copies of two letters and transcriptions; and a letter from Mrs. Staats to a Mr. Pratt describing details of house and furnishings (1947).Collection
