Entry/Object ID

Scope and Content

Constructed ca. 1858. John Thompson, who emigrated from Scotland and eventually made his way to Charleston, opened a seed business on King Street that grew into a lucrative establishment. He was an active farmer himself, operating fields both Uptown and in West Ashley, and was the first person to engage in truck farming in that area. He acquired a large tract bounded by Percy, Coming, and Bogard, and was living at 10 Percy, a Charleston single house, by 1859. File contains historical research report (Eberle, 2018). No photograph on file.
