Description

One cameo portrait of the Right Reverend Theodore Dehon (1776-1817),Second Episcopal Bishop of the Diocese of South Carolina, mounted as a pin. Made in Italy by an unknown artist,c. 1845, the cameo is made of carved shell in a twelve-karat rose gold mounting. The profile bust portrait is executed in white bas relief on a taupe ground. the subject faces left with evidence of a stock, shirt and coat visible in the small portion of his upper torso depicted. The sitter has a high forehead and short, curly hair brushed back behind his ears. The gold frame is decorated with a twisted rop design.
