One cameo portrait of the Right Reverend Theodore Dehon (1776-1817),Second Episcopal Bishop of the Diocese of South Carolina, mounted as a pin. Made in Italy by an unknown artist,c. 1845, the cameo is made of carved shell in a twelve-karat rose gold mounting. The profile bust portrait is executed in white bas relief on a taupe ground. the subject faces left with evidence of a stock, shirt and coat visible in the small portion of his upper torso depicted. The sitter has a high forehead and short, curly hair brushed back behind his ears. The gold frame is decorated with a twisted rop design.Collection

Notes: In 1846, Mrs.Dehon accompanied her son-in-law, The Rev. Paul Trapier, to Europe for an extended Grand Tour. In Italy, where artist specialized in engraving cameos for Tourists, she apparently commissioned this cameo portrait of her deceased husband.
