HCF has taken a leading advisory and advocacy role in the Army Corps of Engineers' proposal to construct a $1.75 billion, 8-mile-long flood wall around the Charleston peninsula which could protect the low-lying from the threat of sea level rise, including serving on committees and leading efforts to engage the Waggonner & Ball consultant team (of "Dutch Dialogues") to assist the city in developing its response to the Corps' Feasibility Study.
Also referred to as the three-by-three study.

HCF has taken a lead advocacy role in confronting flooding and sea-level role as they affect historic houses as well as the city at large. In particular, HCF had and has significant involvement in retaining and working with the Dutch Dialogues team in the planning of a variety of strategies to mitigate the impact of flooding/sea level rise in the Lowcountry, including ensuring that the recommendations were incorporated into the new City Plan.
To date, the file contains the reports "City of Charleston Sea Level Rise Strategy," "Dutch Dialogues Final Report," and "Guidelines on Flood Adaptation for Rehabilitation of Buildings [National Park Service]." Laurel Island Planned Unit Development (PUD)Description
HCF has taken a lead advocacy role in development of Laurel Island, one of the largest developments ever undertaken on the peninsula. HCF has worked strategically and effectively with the development team to influence the plans. Consequently, Laurel Island will make one of the largest investments in permanent workforce housing in the city to date, and public greenspace was made a priority as part of the Planned Unit Development (PUD) district for Laurel Island. Ensuring high quality design and infrastructure, as well as protection of cultural resources at the site continue to be a priority for HCF.

Hotel Ordinance Amendment (431 Meeting Street)Description
HCF advocacy efforts to protect the area of upper King and Meeting Streets from an over-proliferation of hotels and the displacement of residential and office space, and to generate fees for affordable housing, resulted in a lawsuit filed against the Board of Zoning to appeal its approval of a new hotel at 431 Meeting Street.
File contains the legal documents related to the lawsuit and a press release about the settlement of the case that resulted in the strengthening of the Hotel Ordinance Amendment.
