Typed label on back states: "The main building at the College of Charleston, chartered in 1785, the first municipal college in America. In recent years the college has undergone an extensive expansion program which, through adaptive use of many old houses and buildings in the area, has preserved and revitalized one of Charleston's important early neighborhoods."
