Description

Chest-on-Chest made of mahogany with mahogany veneer. Cypress and mahogany secondary woods. Chippendale/Rococo style, c. 1770. Origin: Charleston, SC. Descended in the Frost family. In 2 sections, upper section having rectangular molded top with Greek Key decoration, above blind fret with figure 8 design, over three short cockbeaded drawers, over 2 short cockbeaded drawers, over three long graduated cockbeaded drawers, all flanked by canted corner blind fret decoration; lower section having molded bed over three long graduated cockbeaded drawers, flanked by reeded and stop-fluted quarter columns, on molded base, on ogee bracket feet ****Illustrated and described on pages 144-147 in The Furniture of Charleston, Volume 1: Colonial Furniture
