Description

Volume 1 of the Nathaniel Russell House Architectural Conservation Grant (Getty Grant), concentrating on the architecture of the house, interior plaster, and paint analysis. In addition to the Keyes, et al., report, also includes "Nathaniel Russell House Interior Plaster" by Andrew L. Ladygo; and "Comparative Microscopical Paint and Color Analysis" by Frank S. Welsh. Volume II contains the report compiled by archaeologist Martha Zierden, "Initial Archaeological Testing," following initial architectural testing of the NRH site, providing a preliminary assessment of the site's archaeological component and designed to assist the architectural analysis and guide future, more comprehensive excavation projects. Volume III is in two parts (a and b) entitled "The Nathaniel Russell Papers, 1765-1837," edited by Robert A. Leath as part of the Nathaniel Russell House Research Series, April 1995, and consists of a compilation of the papers of Nathaniel Russell and related newspaper advertisements, affording a look at his business career. Volume IV consists of 3 research reports compiled by Robert A. Leath that relate to the documentary evidence for Charleston's Federal period domestic architecture, its sources, landscape setting, and interior furnishings and decorations--"Charleston's Federal Houses: The Papers of Gabriel Manigault (1758-1809), An Inventory Study, The Documentary Evidence" by Robert A.
