Description

A small scale walnut chest of drawers with bracket feet, a writing slide and molded top. The chest exhibits four graduated drawers with herringbone banding and thumbnail molding. It has full depth dustboards. The top is bookmatched veneer set within a band of herringbone inlay around the perimeter. Brasses appear to be original. Donated by Mrs. Emily Farrow who inscribed the drawers and case in ink. Top drawer: marked on back and sides "AA10" six times also on back "# 1" and "Top" Second drawer: proper left side "#2 AA110" back "2nd drawer" "Property of Emily R and Ashby Farrow" "AA10" Seond drawer dustboard: "Ashby and Emily Farrow 64 South Battery (scratch through) 'The William Gibbes House' Charleston, S.C. 29401 1400 Old Town Road 29407" Third drawer: proper left side: "next to Bottom #3 #AA10" back: "3rd Property of Emily R. and Ashby Farrow The William Gibbes House Charleston, S.C. 29401 AA10" Fourth drawer: proper left side: "Bottom #4 AA10" back: "Property of Emily R and Ashby Farrow The William Gibbes House Charleston, S.C. 29401"
