RE: Object Donation to Colonial Williamsburg
Dear Kitty and Winslow:
Please find attached the Deed of Gift Forms from Colonial Williamsburg Foundation for the door surround from the Radcliffe King House. As discussed previously, it is my recommendation as Curator to gift this architectural artifact to Williamsburg, and I am glad that we are all in agreement. Matt Webster and I discussed the conditions of gift in detail. As outlined in the Deed of Gift Forms, we will be credited as the donor, and they will share all research findings related to the Radcliffe King door surround. It is Williamsburg's intention to analyze the paint layers and then fully conserve this significant architectural element. The door surround will then be placed in the exhibition, A Rich and Varied Culture: The Material World of the Early South. We have retained a second example in our collection, and should we decide to conserve the remaining fragments from the structure, we will be able to use their data.
Attached you will find the two Deed of Gift Forms for your review and signature. I believe this gift is an important collaborative opportunity between HCF and Colonial Williamsburg, and via this transfer, we are helping to promote preservation and scholarship of Charleston's built environment. If you or the Executive Committee has any questions, please feel free to contact me.Created By
