A rectangular wood box with leather handle secured by four bolts. Made to transport a banjo clock in the Aiken Rhett house. Top removes completely to reveal an interior fitted wi th two wooden vertical dividers to support the clock during transit.
Case is made of simple butt joint construction. The body consists of seven boards joined with nails, the exterior covered in paper. The top also is made up of seven boards, secured with a batten running vertically across the length of the top. The top is also covered in paper.
Nail and screw holes are evident along the edges of the top and case where they were secured.
Wood is uncertain as the surface is largely covered in paper, but it likely is white pine.
The box is stenciled below the handle "__KEN - OLD WILLARD Clock." It was likely made in the shop of Simon Willard of Massachusetts who made the clock. It appears to have been made of scrap wood as there is beading carved randomly on the case.Collection
