George III shagreen Etui with complete interior tools. English, circa 1780-1790
A small metal box with hinged flip top, covered in green shark skin (shagreen) and fitted on the inside to accommodate tools for personal grooming. Small size suggests it may have been used when traveling or carried in a lady's pocket. Tools are, front to back:
a) silver spoon - 2.75" l.;
b) silver straight-edge razor - 2.625" (closed), 5.188" (open)
c) silver toothpick - 2.563"
d) bone or ivory hinged object, perhaps once a file - 3" x .5"
e) silver spiral-twisted pick - 2.625"
f) pair of silver scissors - 3.25" x .75"
g) silver tweezers - 3.125" x .375"
Interior lid is inscribed in ink with the name "Rita"Collection

Box is in good condition. The hinges and the latch appear sound.
The tools are all tarnished. The spoon is bent, the handle rippled. The razor, toothpick, file, spiral pick and tweezers are in good condition. The handle of the scissors is bent.
