General Notes

Note

Notes: the Fan-back style originated in Philadelphia just before the Revolutionary War and is a derivation of the comb-back windsor chair. The name fan-back is derived from the fanlike shape of the back or crest rail and it is this bent crest rail that is the only part of the fan-back chair that is bent. The style is char. by the turned stiles or posts on either side of the back spindles, with the number of spindles ranging from ive to eleven.
