Board of Architectural Review, City of Charleston: The B.A.R. ProcessEntry/Object ID
2015.002.109Description
Final report of Andres Duany (DPZ Partners), the consultant with whom the City contracted to comment upon the current architectural review processes and new construction on the peninsula. Outlines the review procedures will be used by the Board of Architectural Review, submittal requirements, and guidelines for building type and architecture.
HCF was instrumental in working with the City of Charleston to hire internationally acclaimed architect and urban planner Andres Duany and his firm, Duany Plater-Zyberk and Company (DPZ) to review the BAR procedures and "make recommendations for its future." Among the recommendations made by Duany and DPZ were specific suggestions to create two separate BAR boards: one to review larger projects involving new construction and development and one for projects involving changes to existing historic structures. City Council adopted the recommendation at its December 15, 2015 meeting and the new structure will be implemented the following week. (See Media link for list of BAR members.)
