*Original description (Bartlett): Wood and composition ornament mantel. Mantletree missing its architraves. Constructed of wood with composition ornament in the Adamesque style. Featuring a tri-panel scene, the mantel has typical Adamesque floral swags and a basket of fruit on the left and right panels and pastoral scene of sheep and shepherd on the center panel. The trusses are adorned with classical urns. There are floral moldings around the entablature and pearl moldings around the very top. The pastoral and shepherd scene is likely designed by composition artist Robert Wellford of Philadelphia. The mantel does not appear to be signed by Wellford but may have been relocated to Charleston from Philadelphia. The dates Wellford was active were from 1798-1839. Good condition. 1' x 7' in dimension.Created By
