Chinese Export Porcelain in Sacred Bird & Butterfly Pattern, C.1815 31 Pieces Chinese Export Porcelain in Sacred Butterfly Pattern with Underglaze Orange and Overglaze Gilt Decoration in a Lush Pattern of Birds, Butterflies, and Flowers. Gilt Rims. Original Loan of 54 Pieces, but 23 Pieces Subsequently Returned. Consists of One Tureen and Cover, Three 10 1/2" Vegetable Dishes, 6 Platters of Varying Sizes, Two Open Dishes, 1 Fish Platter, 1 Dinner Plate, 1 Covered Sauce Tureen, 1 Sauce Boat, 1 Leaf Dish, 1 Pear Shaped Dish. Soup Tureen and Platter, 58.14 in NR 106 FOUND INDEX CARD THAT STATES "SEEMS TO BE MISSING. MAY 1970. (DISCOVERED IN COUNT AFTER HOUSE AND GARDEN PHOTOGRAPHERS LEFT (BJO)

Notes: Originally lent by Mrs. Margaret (Phillip) Hammond, whose father purchased the items while stationed in China in the late 1880s. Mrs. Hammond's daughter - Chillton (?) Mrs. Henry Cheves III - became owner of the porcelain in 1973. Mr. Cheves died after 1978 and Mrs. Cheves remarried Robert E. Johnson, to whom she is still married in 2003. Status: OK
