One of an important Weld Family pair of Federal inlaid and figured mahogany and satinwood game tables, John and Thomas Seymour, Boston, Massachusetts, circa 1798-1805 Tables still retain their original surface and are crafted with the most vibrant satinwood veneers adn embellished with the most refining string inlay with turned in corners. these attributes relate it directly to a remarkable gaming table now permanent loan to the National Gallery of Art by Mrs. George Kaufman.

Descended through the Weld family of Boston, Massachusetts; original owner was Horatio Weld (1784-1823), Boston, Massachusetts Weld Family - Hastings weld was a prominent author and newspaper editor. He authored Corrected Proofs and edited the newspapers Brother Jonathan and the Evening Tattler. He also corresponded with Edgar Allen Poe, sent him a letter asking for his autograph and complaining about HHW's criticism of his work in Brother Jonathan. Hasiting Weld was also the great uncle of the famous American painter, John French Sloan,w ho was also a high school classmate of Albert Barnes and William Glackens (1909-1978).
