Alicia DeWolf Middleton (1815-1908) was born in Bristol, Rhode Island near Newport, the birthplace of Nathaniel Russell. She was the second wife of Nathaniel Russell Middleton, the grandson of Nathaniel Russell, and through this marraige, had one son and four children. Upon her marriage to Nathaniel Russell Middleton, she became the daughter-in-law to Arthur and Alicia Middleton.
This portraiture was painted in 1842 by Anne Hall who received training Newport, RI and New York. In this portraiture, Anne has portrayed Alicia in her wedding gown posed with her arm popped and her gaze directed to the left. This pose was popularized by Thomas Sully.Collection
