Description

Impression on heavy paper of the book plate of C. Manigault (Charles Izard Manigault). c.1820, with Manigault family crest and motto. The original armorial bookplate was commissioned by C.I.M. during his Asian travels in the 1820s. Its engraver was Samuel Clayton, a convicted English forger who was sentenced to life in Australia during its early years as a penal colony.
