Scope of work: The pieces of paper were removed from the glass pieces using paint stripper having methylene chloride and toluene in it. The varnish was further removed from the front of the image using acetone and toluene. The pieves of the picture were reinforced with Hapanese paper an dmethyl cellulose adhesive adn the picture was given a backing using htis. The missing areas were filled with paper pulp made from kozo fiber, a a third backing was given. The losses were inpainted using Windor and Newton Watercolors and some Rembrandt acrylic colors. The broadside was washed and buffered with calcium hydroxide water which froms calcium carbonated in the paper fibers upon drying. It was dried, then inserted between two pieces of mylar into the back of the frame. A new glass mat was made by Veda and Bret Headley, Winchester, Virginia, using old glass, gold leaf, and black oil paint. The paper ws archivally hinged using Japanese paper/starch paste into a mat of buffered ragboard and reframed in a sealed package consisting of the glass, matted picture, and 5 mil Mylar D on the back, taped arond the edges with 3M 810 tape. Before and after treatment Agfachrome sildes and digital pictures were taken.
