Mechanical BankDescription
This is a mechanical savings bank made from cast iron. It is known as the "Trick Dog" bank and depicts a circus clown and his dog. A coin is first inserted into the dog's mouth, then the lever is triggered and the dog jumps up and into the hoop (missing) and tosses the coin into the barrel. The main colors are red, yellow and black, but those do not appear to be the original colors, likely repainted.
Made prior to 1920 due to the construction and design of the base. Patented in 1888 by Daniel Cooke from Camden, NJ. Originally manufactured by the Shepard Hardware Company. Around 1900, Hubley Manufacturing Company acquired the molds and made their own version for many years.Acquisition
