Description

Pipe is made out of Porcelain that is white in color, it has a yellow color stem. Donor's description: "This pipe was kept by me [Bernard McPharlin] - John Goodyear. Partner of Goodyear Brothers Hardware. I was working at the Chidester Co. at the time I received this pipe for my collection. "John" was also an officer and director of the old Hastings National Bank. I recall as a youngster coming into town and standing near the bank window and seeing Mr. John G. and Harry Hayes sign these sheets of money (bills) and Harry would snip each bill off with a long paper shears. As I remember there must have been three or four bills to the sheet. And the President and cashier of the bank must have been required to sign each bill. But as a child's impression I thought Mr. John made that new money. His son was Edward Goodyear, also a hardware merchant in Hastings.
