The Art Nouveau, or "New Art", is a style of jewelry that developed in 1880-1910. Designs in this style focused on nature and asymmetry. This style used precious and semi-precious gemstones like moonstones and opals, as well as imperfectly shaped pearls called baroque pearls. Art Nouveau also used enamels made of powdered glass or minerals that were fused to metal surfaces. Art Nouveau was popular into the early 1900's but lost prominence with the creation of the Art Deco style.
