Description

A set of two pewter invalid feeders shaped like carrots. The bottom contains a touchmark with two four-point crosses.

Use

Invalid feeders, sometimes called pap boats, were used in hospitals and homes to care for infants and other individuals who could not feed themselves. Historically, they contained a mixture of soft foods—most commonly bread, flour, and water—which was known as "pap."
