Description

Ceramic butter churn with a cream color glaze. It contains a lid and a wooden dasher. A number five is printed in blue ink on the front, indicating the size.

Use

Using a plunge churn, cow or goat cream was turned into butter by moving the wooden staff up and down in a process known as churning. This repeated action allowed the cream to congeal and stick together, forming clumps of butter.
