Description

Bed warmer made of brass, copper, tin, and iron. It has a wrought iron handle with a hinged cover attached with copper rivets. The cover is pierced with a Fleur de Lis design.

Use

Also known as bassinoires, bed warmers were used as heating instruments. After lifting the cover on the pan, the user would place hot coals in the receptacle and replace the cover. Then, holding the long wooden handle, the user placed the brass pan under the bed coverings to warm the bed at night.
