Description

English brass fire fender with tool stands attached to the sides. The fender has stepped feet and a simple design with applied scroll form on the face. The set includes the following tools: fire shovel, fire tongs, and fire poker, all with matching turned knob handles and intermediate ring turnings on shafts.

Use

A fire fender, when placed correctly before a fireplace, serves as a physical barrier between the fire and the room by keeping ash and logs contained and ensuring people and animals stay an appropriate distance from flames. Fire fenders were most popular during the Victorian era when formal entertaining spaces featured wood-burning fireplaces.
