Description

Fireplace griddle with wrought iron hanging hooks and a sturdy wrought iron platform sheathed in copper. It has a brass handle which can be used to move the griddle surface.

Use

Designed to hang between andirons in a fireplace, this griddle features a rectangular cooking surface used to keep a meal warm and to bake foods like pancakes, bacon, and biscuits. Utilizing the movable prongs on the underside, a nineteenth-century baker was able to adjust the plate’s position over the fire. Both versatile and durable, metal griddles were intended to withstand high temperatures and frequent use.
