The calendar features images of the South Carolina Tricentennial seal and the Standard S&L Association seal.Context
The Hampton-Preston Mansion and its grounds, bounded by Blanding, Pickens, Laurel, and Henderson streets served as the site of the Midlands Exposition Center during the 1970 South Carolina Tricentennial Celebration. The Mansion's first floor was staged to showcase the lifestyle of one wealthy, planter-class family in South Carolina from the Revolution through the Reconstruction Era (c.1770 until c.1870). Over 135,000 people visited the mansion and the two temporary geometric structures erected on either side of it during the year-long celebration.
While the Century Souvenir Company of Seattle was the sole and official souvenir licensee of the Tricentennial symbols and therefore operated all onsite gift shops and souvenir stands during the celebration, many independent businesses also used Tricentennial logos to promote their own business as well as show support for the celebration. This promotional calendar for the Standard Savings and Loan Association, which had operating ventures in the cities of Columbia, Newberry, and Orangeburg, featured the Hampton-Preston Mansion and the officials seals for the Tricentennial in their 1970 calendar.Dimensions
