Description

Brass bed warmer with a pieced turned wooden handle. The hinged cover is engraved with a center floral medallion and other designs.

Use

Also known as bassinoires, bed warmers were used as heating instruments. After lifting the cover on the pan, the user would place hot coals in the receptacle and replace the cover. Then, holding the long wooden handle, the user placed the brass pan under the bed coverings to warm the bed at night.
