Wicker-Covered Wine Bottle

Name/Title

Wicker-Covered Wine Bottle

Entry/Object ID

1974.31.24

Description

Blue wine bottle with cork contained in a brown wicker cover with one handle. A label on the cover reads "Sage Wine."

Use

Protected by a wicker cover, this bottle was used to transport alcohol, which was then served from a decanter or punch bowl. As the opaque cover made it difficult to identify the bottle’s contents, a descriptive label was affixed to it. In this case, the label tells us the bottle housed sage wine for at least part of its existence.
