Description

Bed warmer made of brass with a baluster turned wooden handle. The hinged cover is pierced with stylized floral sprays in a triple design.

Use

Also known as bassinoires, bed warmers were used as heating instruments. After lifting the cover on the pan, the user would place hot coals in the receptacle and replace the cover. Then, holding the long wooden handle, the user placed the brass pan under the bed coverings to warm the bed at night.
