Context

Established in Meriden, Connecticut, in 1865, Wilcox Brittania Company—soon after rebranded as the Wilcox Silver Plate Company—was founded by entrepreneur Jedediah Wilcox (1827-1897). A year after Wilcox's death, International Silver Company purchased Wilcox Silver Plate Company, which retained its brand name until the 1980s. This set of candelabras and its base, the underside of which features a maker's mark, was made by Wilcox Silver Plate Company around 1870.
