Pembroke Breakfast Table

Name/Title

Pembroke Breakfast Table

Entry/Object ID

2012.8.1

Description

American Federal style drop leaf mahogany table with one drawer and one false drawer. The drawers both have brass pulls, and the four legs rest on brass casters. The leaves have cut corners. The drawer faces, the legs, the table, and the leaves all have an orange inlaid design.

Use

Pembroke tables are often referred to as breakfast tables. The drop-leaf design allows the table to be expandable when needed, or to take up little storage room when not in use. It was most suitable for small meals or when taking tea, or to act as a small writing desk.
