Simple wooden school bench with peeling green paint. There is a rack on the back that would have held books for the students sitting behind this bench. Names have been engraved by hand in the backside of the bench.

This bench, crafted about 1870, came from a school established by Judge Lemuel Boozer (1809–1870) for the education of the children of formerly enslaved people. The school was located on West Main Street in neighboring Lexington, South Carolina.Dimensions
